Common questions

Why does iPhone or iPad need camera access?

iOS does not expose a public ambient light sensor. IllumiGauge estimates illuminance using the selected camera’s exposure settings. No photos or camera frames are saved or uploaded. If permission is denied, open system Settings, find IllumiGauge and enable Camera.

How do I get more consistent readings?

Keep the selected camera unobstructed, wait for the reading to settle, and use a consistent position and light-source setting. In Settings, adjust smoothing or calibrate against a reference meter. Camera estimates are indicative; use a calibrated instrument for certified measurements.

Why are PPFD and DLI estimates?

Lux-to-PPFD conversion depends on the light source’s spectrum. Choose the closest light type and set the hours of light when estimating DLI. Results provide context and do not replace a quantum sensor or plant-specific growing advice.

How do I save or export readings?

Use Save on the Meter tab. Add an optional note and a named location. In History, open a record to share its CSV or use the menu to export all readings. The system share sheet lets you choose where the file goes.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. Metering, manual calculations and saved history work offline. Software update checks use an internet connection when available.

How do I remove my readings?

Delete a record from its detail screen, or delete all readings using the History menu. Deleting a named location keeps its readings but removes the label. Files already exported must be deleted at their destination.
